OUR VETERANS

Riverside Cemetery is honored to be the resting place for many of Rhode Island's military veterans. Our famous Soldiers and Sailors Monument was dedicated by the State Department in 1886 in memory of the heroes of South Kingstown who gave their lives for their country, and still stands tall today.

The monument was cut from Westerly granite by the Smith Granite Company of Westerly, Rhode Island.

Plans for the Soldiers and Sailors monument began in 1870, though construction was not complete

until 1886. The names of 64 brave soldiers and

sailors appear on the monument.
